Remembering Jerry Baker at Lk Sammamish GP

By Saturday, September 12, 2015 October 12th, 2015 2015, Cyclocross

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden death of Jerry Baker on Thursday fromĀ Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Jerry was the foundation of modern bike racing in Washington state starting in the 1970’s as he took numerous roles developing the sport including the road, track and cyclocross disciplines. For most folks currently involved in bicycle racing he is known for this selfless work with the Marymoor Velodrome and Seattle Cyclocross Series. Jerry is also well know for winning the first Seattle to Portland (the one time it was a race) and riding every edition there after. He is survived by his wife, Deborah “Spot” Stephenson, and son and daughter, Andy and Julia Baker.

We will ask everyone in attendance on Sunday at Lake Sammamish GP to gather with us at the Finish Line just before the start of the 1:50 PM races to take a moment to reflect on Jerry’s passing.
