FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MFG Cyclocross Re-imagines the 2020 Cyclocross Season as The Big Idea
Seattle, WA – August 26th, 2020 – MFG Cyclocross is pleased to announce The Big Idea, a re-configuration of the 2020 cyclocross race season. While all competition at MFG Cyclocross traditional venues has been postponed for 2020, the Big Idea takes all six event dates, and re-formats the events into a riding challenge, open to all. Registration is free and open now on www.mfgcyclocross.com.
“The Big Idea is our way of taking a very difficult 2020 and turning it into a creative riding challenge designed to raise and direct funds to a variety of organizations based on each participants choice,” said MFG Cyclocross co-founder Zac Daab. “We will use all six of our 2020 dates, and challenge riders across the Pacific Northwest as well as the world, to join us on those days to come up with a riding challenge, set a fundraising target, choose a donation recipient, and have fun doing individual rides. We hope to raise $1,000,000 this season through our initiative.”
The Big Idea was a concept inspired by the work of US cyclocross racer Tobin Ortenblad, who started his own Big Rides for a Big Cause in Santa Cruz, CA earlier in the summer. Through Ortenblad’s initiative, he helped raise over $100,000. The Big Idea will feature participation from notable US cyclocross riders from across the country including 2019 US Cyclocross National Championship silver medalist Kerry Werner; local 40-44 Cyclocross National Champion Tricia Fleischer; and Rally Professional Cycling Team member Heidi Franz.
“We wanted the Big Idea to serve our community of loyal MFG Cyclocross racers with six dates that they can look forward to this fall,” said MFG Cyclocross co-founder Terry Buchanan. “Additionally, we wanted to engage the rest of the country as most cyclocross racing options have been cancelled. We are not cancelling our season; we are re-imaging what can be accomplished over six event dates and hope to inspire the entire US.”
The Big Idea is supported by Rapha and The Cycling House.
